Denver Rolls to 21-3 Win Over Butler

DENVER -- The Pioneers dominated in a 21-3 victory over the Butler Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. 

Denver had ten different goal scorers in the victory and 13 different Pioneers record points. DU's 19 helpers are the most in a single game in program history.

Olivia Ripple started the scoring off a feed from Raegan Wilson at 13:48 in the first quarter, it took Denver almost eight minutes to gain a 2-0 advantage off a goal by Lauren Black, the largest time between goals for the remainder of the game. Butler was able to answer with a goal of their own at the 5:50 to cut the deficit to 2-1. 

The Crimson and Gold responded with 12 unanswered goals in the first half to take a 14-1 advantage into the locker room at halftime. Graduate student Maddie Montgomery and freshman Maggie Myers each recorded their first goals as Pioneers as a part of the dominant offensive effort. 

Denver continued to dominate in the second half with goals by Ripple, Black, Myers, Mollie Estepp and Raegan Wilson to secure the 21-3 victory for the Pioneers. 

KEY PERFORMANCES:
Black led the offensive effort with a nine point day on five goals and a season-high four assists, Olivia Ripple added three goals and a career-best four helpers. Maddie Montgomery and Maggie Myers each recorded their first goals in the Crimson and Gold while Addy Caulk, Mollie Estepp and Caroline Bowers each added a pair. 

Alex Dorr was dominant in the draw circle with 17 win, a career-best and the program record for most draw control wins in a single game. Her 114 career draw wins are good for the second-most all time in a single season.

Montgomery was dominant defensively for the Pioneers with three caused turnovers and a trio of ground balls. Maggie Gately, Estepp, Megan Klingenberg and Landry Grover each added a pair of caused turnovers. 

NOTABLES:
  • 19 assists is good for the most in a single game in Denver program history.
  • Denver's 23 draw wins are tied for fifth most in a single game. 
  • Alex Dorr's 17 wins in the circle are the most-ever by a Pioneer in a single game. Her 114 draw wins are good for second-most in a single season behind Abby Jenkins who recorded 134 draws in 2023. 
  • The 17 goal margin marks the largest victory by a Pioneers squad since March 30, 2019 when Denver beat Old Dominion 20-1.
