Denver Routs VIllanova to Capture Regular Season Title

DENVER - The University of Denver women's lacrosse team defeated the Villanova Wildcats, 17-7, on senior day at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. With the win, the Pioneers secured their sixth consecutive BIG EAST Championship and the No. 1 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament.

Denver started the scoring early with a quick goal by Mollie Estepp just 45 seconds into the game. Raegan Wilson tacked on a pair of goals in the first, Eva Thomsen-Marr scored woman-down and Caroline Bowers added a goal to give Denver a 5-1 advantage after the first frame. 

The Pioneers held the Wildcats scoreless in the second quarter to extend the lead to 9-2. Wilson completed the first half hat trick alongside goals from Lauren Black and Olivia Ripple. 

Sarah Pokorny opened up scoring in the third quarter with a transition goal off a failed Villanova clear at to give Denver the 10-2 advantage. Ripple and Thomsen-Marr both added their second goals of the day. The Wildcats went on a 3-0 run at the end of the third to cut the deficit to 12-6 with one quarter remaining. 

Denver responded with a 5-1 run of their own in the final quarter to defeat Villanova, 17-7.

KEY PERFORMANCES:
Raegan Wilson led the Pioneers offensively with a career high 5 goals and added a pair of helpers. Olivia Ripple and Eva Thomsen-Marr both recorded hat tricks and Lauren Black added a pair of goals. 

Sarah Pokorny filled the stats sheet with a goal, two caused turnovers and a trio of wins in the draw circle. Caroline Colimore had a pair of ground balls and one draw win. Emelia Bohi made six saves between the pipes. 

Alex Dorr tallied eight draw wins.

UP NEXT: The Pioneers head to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to take on No. 4 Georgetown in the Big East Tournament Semifinal on May 1.
