Olivia Ripple Breaks Single-Game Scoring Record in Win over Marquette

Ripple recorded 10 goals in the Pioneers' 23-10 victory over the Golden Eagles.

MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin – Olivia Ripple had a record-breaking day with 10 goals in the Pioneers' 23-10 victory over the Marquette Golden Eagles on Wednesday afternoon in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Denver's 23 goals ties for the second most goals scored by the Pioneers in a single game.

Denver got off to a slow start, giving up seven goals in the first quarter and only responded with four of their own.

The Pioneers held the Golden Eagles scoreless in the second frame and tacked on 10 goals to overcome the early deficit. Ripple led the charge with 5 goals on six shots to give Denver a 14-7 advantage at the half.  Alongside Ripple, Caroline Bowers, Caroline Keil, Eva Thomsen-Marr, Lindsey Wilmot and Sarah Pokorny each recorded goals of their own.

Marquette was able to cut the deficit to five at the start of the third before Ripple responded with her eighth goal of the day. Raegan Wilson tacked on a pair of goals and Kyra Obert got one more, giving Denver the 18-10 advantage with 15 minutes remaining in the game.

Ripple tallied her ninth and tenth goals of the day to start the fourth quarter, earning her Denver's single game scoring record. The Pioneers held the Golden Eagles scoreless in the final frame and left Milwaukee with a 23-10 win over Marquette.

KEY PERFORMANCES:
  • Olivia Ripple recorded 10 goals against Marquette. The mark is the most goals ever scored by a Pioneer in a single game and ties for the fourth most in a single game in NCAA DI Women's Lacrosse history.
  • Eva Thomsen-Marr earned a career-high seven points on five goals and two assists. Lindsey Wilmot added a career-best two goals.
  • Denver earned a season-best 25 draw control wins led by Alex Dorr's 13 wins in the circle, Sarah Pokorny added a career-best 8 draws.
  • Lexi Gwaku made eight saves between the pipes.
  • Defensively, Ripple led the Pioneers with 3 caused turnovers while Maddie Montgomery and Pokorny each added a pair. Ripple added a career-high five ground balls and Montgomery and Landry Grover each added three of their own.
UP NEXT: The Pioneers travel to Storrs, Connecticut to take on the UConn Huskies on Sunday afternoon.
