Carson Johnson Added to Denver Men’s Basketball Roster

The rising sophomore was named to the NABC All-Central District First Team last season after averaging 19.8 points, 3.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds in his freshman campaign at Minnesota State Moorhead

DENVER – The University of Denver men's basketball program has signed 2025 NABC Division II All-Central District First Team selection Carson Johnson, who completed his transfer from Minnesota State Moorhead, newly hired head coach Tim Bergstraser announced on Wednesday.

"Carson is the ultimate competitor," Bergstraser said. "He does whatever it takes to win for his teammates. His ability to hit tough shots in a variety of ways makes him a dangerous player. He puts so much work into his game, and it shows on the court. The DU fans and community are going to love watching him play, and our program is lucky to have him."

Johnson played for Bergstraser in his first collegiate season at MSUM, seeing action in the final 23 games of the season and averaging 19.8 points to go with three rebounds and three assists to lead the Dragons to the NCAA Round of 16 this March. The 6-0 guard finished with 20 or more points in 12 games, including a rookie-season-high 42 points on 14-of-26 shooting (8-14 from three) in a 104-98 win over St. Cloud State on February 1. Johnson's 42-point night was the highest point total in a single game in the Dragons' program since 1995.

The Ankeny, Iowa, product's postseason awards also saw Johnson become the first freshman in NSIC history to be named the NSIC Tournament MVP to go with All-NSIC First Team and NCAA Central Regional All-Tournament honors. In the NSIC Tournament, Johnson averaged 26 points per game, making 10 triples and going 14-for-16 from the free-throw line in the three-game championship run.

In the NCAA's, Johnson poured in 26 points that included five more three-pointers in MSUM's 70-59 win over Winona State to get the Dragons back to the regional final for the first time since 2014-15.

Johnson is the second new Pioneer to join Bergstraser from MSUM, joining Shaun Wysocki, who was announced on Tuesday. FULL RELEASE

At the end of April, Bergstraser hired three assistants to join his inaugural Denver staff. FULL RELEASE
