Denver Gymnastics Adds Abby Steeley for 2025-26

California native graduated high school early to join DU for upcoming season

DENVER – The University of Denver gymnastics team has signed Abby Steeley beginning with the 2025-26 academic year, Joy S. Burns Head Women's Gymnastics Coach Melissa Kutcher-Rinehart announced on Tuesday.

"We're excited for Abby to join the DU Gymnastics family," Kutcher-Rinehart said. "She worked hard to graduate from high school early to start chasing her dreams with us this season. She's a committed and gritty athlete who will bring heart and dedication to the gym every day, and her gymnastics showcases a combination of grace, poise and artistry. She shares our team's values and vision, and she'll be a great addition to our team culture."

Steeley is a Level 10 gymnast from Modesto, California, and trained at San Mateo Gymnastics. She is a two-time USAG Development Program Level 10 National Championships qualifier, most recently tying for eighth on beam in 2024. In the lead up to 2024 DP Nationals, she won the NorCal state all-around and bars titles while tying for second on vault and floor, and adding a fourth-place finish on beam. She backed it up with a fifth-place finish in the all-around and a tie for fourth on vault at the 2024 Region 1 Championships.

Originally slated to join the Denver roster in 2026-27, Steeley graduated from high school a year early and will enroll at DU in September 2025.

Steeley will be one of seven newcomers to the Denver roster in 2025-26, joining the No. 9 recruiting class in the country featuring incoming freshmen Megan Aamold, Shyla Bhatia, Sevana Kasparian, Kaitlynd Kastl and Terra Rutter, as well as sophomore transfer Addie Hewitt.

Denver finished the 2025 season ranked No. 13 nationally and reached its sixth consecutive NCAA Regional Final after tying with No. 4 Utah for first place and upsetting then-No. 13 Stanford in the NCAA Second Round. DU was just three tenths from a team berth to the NCAA National Championships, placing behind only eventual NCAA runner-up UCLA and NCAA finalist Utah.
