Denver Women’s Tennis Tops Summit League Preseason Poll

DU favored to win its 12th consecutive league title; Wikander collects Player to Watch honors

DENVER – The University of Denver women's tennis team finished atop the 2026 Summit League Men's Tennis Preseason Coaches' Poll, the league announced on Wednesday.

By a head coaches' vote, Denver was voted as the favorite to win the Summit League title this season. Should DU win the championship, it would be the program's 12th in a row.

2026 SUMMIT LEAGUE WOMEN'S TENNIS PRESEASON COACHES' POLL
1. Denver (25 points, five first-place votes)

2. Omaha (26 points)
3. North Dakota (26 points, one first-place vote)
4. Kansas City (23 points)
5. St. Thomas (15 points)
6. Oral Roberts (11 points)
7. South Dakota (8 points)

DU returns five All-Summit League Team members from 2025: now-seniors Hana Bečirovič Novak, Marley Lambert, Claudia Martinez de Velasco and Louise Wikander; and now-junior Natálie Cinková. Denver also welcomes an in-league transfer in senior Zoe Adkins, who is a two-time All-Summit League Team honoree.

In 2025, Denver extended its unbeaten run in Summit League play since joining the league in 2013-14 while winning its 11th league title. DU qualified for the NCAA National Championships for a 14th time last season.

Wikander earned a spot on the Summit League Women's Tennis Players to Watch list. After going 18-13 in singles (6-0 in Summit League play) and an outstanding 25-6 in doubles (5-0 in Summit League) a season ago, Wikander got off to a hot start in 2025-26. She went 9-4 in singles and won the ITA Mountain Regional singles title on her way to an appearance at the NCAA Division I Tennis Singles & Doubles Championships. The senior enters the 2026 dual season ranked No. 79 nationally in singles.

The Summit League Tennis Championships return to a neutral site in 2026 and will be held in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on April 24-25.

The 2025-26 season will be Denver's final as a member of the Summit League. The University of Denver announced that it will be joining the West Coast Conference next academic year, effective July 1, 2026.

Denver opens its spring season at the Long Beach State Winter Invite on January 16-18 before starting dual match play against future WCC opponent Seattle on Friday, January 23, at Denver Tennis Park. DU's Summit League opener is set for February 28 at St. Thomas.
