SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – University of Denver men's basketball sophomore guard Carson Johnson has been named the Kwik Star Summit League Men's Basketball Peak Performer of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Johnson led the Pioneers back to the win column last Wednesday night with 33 points, the most by a Summit League men's basketball player this season.
The Ankeny, Iowa, native finished with 30+ for the second time in his career, only less than his 42 points against St. Cloud State on February 1, 2025. Johnson is the third different Pioneer to score 30+ this season (Zane Nelson, Shaun Wysocki), one of four programs in the country to have three different players reach that plateau.
Johnson's 33 points ties for the eighth-most in a game against a Division I opponent in Denver's modern DI era (1998-99). In addition to going 9-for-16 from the floor, Johnson finished a perfect 11-for-11 from the line.
The Denver sophomore finished with 20 or more points for the ninth time this season, tying for the 35th-most 20+ point games in the country this season. Johnson ranks 65th in the country in points per game (18.5), 28th in three-point percentage (41.9) and 59th in three-point field goals made (52).
Johnson is the eighth different Pioneer to earn Summit League Player of the Week honors since the program joined the conference in 2013-14, and is the second Pioneer to win the award this season.
