Pioneers Host Kansas City on Wednesday Night in Hamilton

DENVER -- The University of Denver women's basketball team returns home on Wednesday night to host Kansas City at 6 p.m. MT in Hamilton Gymnasium. 

The Pioneers are 9-9 all-time against the Roos. Denver dropped the most recent matchup in Hamilton, 65-73, on Feb. 5, 2025. 

PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE
•The Pioneers closed out their three-game roadtrip with a 55-75 loss to South Dakota on Saturday in Vermillion.
•Denver returns to Hamilton for the first of two home games against Kansas City on Jan. 21.
•DU hosts Oral Roberts on Saturday at 11 a.m. MT for the first game of a Pioneer basketball double-header. 

UNIVERSITY OF DENVER ACCEPTS WCC INVITE FOR 2026-27
•On October 31, the University of Denver announced it has accepted an invitation to join the West Coast Conference in nine sports, beginning in the 2026-27 season.  
•Denver will join the West Coast Conference in men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's tennis and women's volleyball.
•The move provides Denver with a significant enhancement to the overall reputation of the university and brand association, allying DU with highly regarded, mostly private institutions with stronger academic ranking and profiles that will further strengthen the university's position in the western United States. 

DOUBLING UP
Laia Monclova recorded the first double-double of her career on Thursday, January 8 at St. Thomas.
•The junior guard notched 17 points and a career-best 10 rebounds alongside six assists and three steals. 

PICKING POCKETS
Laia Monclova leads the Summit League and ranks 100th in the nation with 41 steals through 16 contests. 
•Monclova's 2.28 steals/game lead the league and are 100th in the nation. 
Tori Baker tied for the third-most steals in a single game in program history with seven takeaways in the victory over North Dakota.
•The Pioneers average 7.9 steals per game, ranking fifth in the Summit League.

WORKIN' WITH WATTS
•Sophomore Guard Coryn Watts scored a career-high 32 points in the Dec. 19 win over California Baptist, good for ninth-most by a Pioneer in a single game in program history.
•The Colorado native leads the team and the league and ranks 14th in the nation with 35.48 minutes per game.
•Watts ranks 16th in the nation in field goal attempts and 31st in field goals, 41st in points, and 21st in points per game.
•From behind the arc, Watts is 83rd in the nation with 42 three-pointers and 67th in the nation with 2.47 treys per contest.
