MIDWAY, Utah – The Denver Pioneers ski team opens the 2026 Utah Invitational this weekend with cross-country events at Soldier Hollow Nordic Center.
The Nordic races get underway on Saturday morning with the 7.5-kilometer freestyle interval start and conclude with the 15K classical mass start on Saturday.
This is the second round of events for the Nordic Pioneers and the rest of the RMISA athletes after they began the collegiate campaign at the U.S. Cross Country National Championships in Lake Placid, New York, on Jan. 4-9. Those races doubled as the Nordic-only RMISA Invitational, which Denver finished sixth at.
Utah won the RMISA Invite team event in New York, as well as the College Cup at U.S. Nationals.
DU was a bit shorthanded in Lake Placid as several members of the squad were dealing with an illness. Despite the Pios being under the weather, they still put together some solid individual results.
Freshmen
Ruby Serrouya came in sixth in the 20K freestyle and sophomore-transfer
Eemil Juntunen picked up his first top 10 with the Pioneers and matched a personal-best result by placing sixth in classic sprints. Additionally, senior
Micah Steinberg earned his third career top 10 and tied a career high in ninth in the 10K classic, and freshman
Synne Bollingmo earned her first career top 10 in classic sprints.
