DENVER – The University of Denver gymnastics team is ranked No. 17 in the Week 4 Road to Nationals rankings, which were released on Monday.
Denver tallied a 196.000 in its Big 12 Conference opener at West Virginia on Saturday, rallying from a tougher-than-normal bars rotation to improve its scores from rotation to rotation, ending with a strong 49.250 on beam to end the meet.
TEAM NATIONAL RANKINGS
Overall: No. 17 (196.142 average)
Vault: No. 20 (48.983)
Beam: No. 15 (49.067)
Floor: No. 12 (49.250)
DU improved its average on beam to get above the 49.000 mark while also holding its vault average virtually the same compared to Week 3.
INDIVIDUAL NATIONAL RANKINGS
Senior Cecilia Cooley
Floor: tie-No. 5 (9.9517)
Cooley, who ranked No. 1 in the country on floor through her first two meets, maintained a spot near the top of the national rankings, tying for No. 5 heading into February.
DU's event leaders by average score have had consistent starts to the season as well. In addition to holding the team's top floor average, Cooley also shares the lead on beam with Reidenbach, each sitting at a 9.833. On vault, freshman
Shyla Bhatia sits with a 9.858 average that ranks just outside of the top 25 in a tie for No. 27 while fellow freshman
Kaitlynd Kastl owns a 9.800 average to top DU's individual rankings.
No. 17 Denver returns home after two weeks on the road and will host Iowa State in a Big 12 Conference meet on Sunday, February 1, at 2:45 p.m. MT. The meet will be televised live on ESPN2.
