QUOTABLES
Richard and Kitzia Goodman Hockey Head Coach David Carle
On the game: "I thought there was a lot of good in tonight's game out of both teams. It was a really good battle. Obviously, the penalty kill was excellent tonight. Thought we defended better at 5-on-5 as well. We would have liked to capitalize on some more of our offensive chances, but I thought they limited time and space really well. You could tell their desperation as a group and as a team was really high, and they made life hard for us. So it was a really good battle."
Â
On how he feels about the team at this point of the season: "It was a really good four-game, non-conference stretch. I mean, it's always a work in progress trying to get everybody on the same page. A lot of people come in playing, you know, maybe a little bit different style, or ask them to do different things then what they were doing in junior, and ultimately college hockey is really challenging. Teams take away time and space extremely well. It's really hard to build up the ice without really good puck support. It's hard to get the puck back. It's hard to have the puck. And so for our group, it's just continuing to try to come together and gel as a unit, as a five-man unit out there–to defend as a group of five and attack as a group of five as well."
Â
Sophomore Forward Clarke Caswell
On the game's outcome during homecoming weekend: "Fans have been great. Obviously there have been some scores we didn't want, but it's better to learn these lessons in October and then grow from them for March and April."
Â
On players that stood out to him at tonight's game: "I think [Blake] Fiddler was taking big steps. Just moving the puck up, moving his feet. And all of our freshmen too. It's been a big jump, but I think they've been acclimating well."
Â
On key takeaways from the weekend and what they will change next weekend: "I think just learning how to shut games down. Again [we are a] young group, but we are learning our footing and learning valuable lessons that we will take with us for the rest of the season."
Â
On his personal game and how he will continue to grow: "I think just moving my feet, staying strong on the forecheck, turning over pucks, shooting the puck a little more and just continuing to play hard."
Â
On his six assists on the season and playmaking ability: "Obviously, I'd like to shoot the puck a little bit more, but we have great weapons around us with all the playmakers and shooters we have. So it's just guys being in the right spots."
