PROVO, Utah – Two University of Denver men's tennis players advanced to the singles quarterfinals at the 2026 ITA Mountain Regional Championships, hosted by BYU, with two wins apiece on Thursday.
Â
Junior Theo Coats and sophomore Dylan Davies both won their rounds of 32 and 16 matches in straight sets to move on in the main draw heading into Day 4 of the tournament on Friday.
Â
Coats started the day with an upset victory over No. 9 seed Jakub Jedrzejczak in dominant fashion, losing only two games in their round of 32 meeting. It equaled his fewest games dropped in an NCAA singles match.
Â
Later in the day, Coats booked his second consecutive ITA Regionals quarterfinals appearance, winning in two sets for the second time on the day during his round of 16 win over Utah's Iker Ibarrando Suarez.
Â
Davies joins Coats in the quarterfinals off his own straight-sets wins, beginning with a convincing 6-4 6-2 win in the round of 32 over Boise State's Eyad Reda Ezzat Mohamed Sherif, which backed up his upset over the No. 3 seed in his first match of the tournament on Wednesday.
Â
The sophomore advanced to the quarters in his ITA Regionals debut with an even stronger result in the round of 16, losing only three games to Nevada's Axel Huysmans for the best result of his young NCAA career.
Â
Denver has now had multiple student-athletes in the ITA Mountain Regional quarterfinals in four consecutive years.
Â
Junior Samuel Rovai joined Coats and Davies in the round of 16 after fending off Montana's Timo Meyer in three sets. Rovai won two 7-5 sets, sealing it in the third after Meyer forced a decider with a second-set tiebreak win. The Pioneer player came up against the tournament's No. 1 seed in UNLV's Marko Maksimovic in the round of 16 and played to a tiebreak in the first set but ultimately came up short in two sets.
Â
Sophomore Ander Tarrio Ponte took to the court in an added singles match as well, facing BYU's Tygen Goldammer, who was the No. 3 seed but was ousted in the first round by DU's Davies on Wednesday.
Â
The 2026 ITA Mountain Regional Championships continues on Friday with the doubles semifinals and the singles quarterfinals. Play is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. MT.
