DENVER – The University of Denver men's lacrosse program has named Karson Burkey an assistant coach, William G. Tierney Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Matt Brown announced.
"We are thrilled to welcome Karson Burkey to the Denver Lacrosse family," Brown said. "Karson brings valuable coaching experience from his time as the defensive coordinator at Baldwin Wallace, along with the leadership and toughness he developed as a five-year starter and two-time captain at Cleveland State. He will take the lead with our face-off unit, help shape our play through the middle of the field and assist Coach Gallant on the defensive end. Karson is smart, extremely hardworking and committed to helping our student-athletes develop on and off the field. He is a tremendous addition to our staff and a perfect fit for what it means to be a Pioneer."
Burkey joins the Pioneers after two seasons at Baldwin Wallace University, where he served as an assistant coach, defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator from 2024-26. During his time with the Yellow Jackets, Burkey helped lead the program to back-to-back 14-5 seasons, undefeated conference regular seasons and conference championship game appearances, while helping develop six All-Americans.
Prior to beginning his coaching career, Burkey played five seasons at Cleveland State University, where he served as a team captain during his final two seasons. The defenseman led the Vikings in caused turnovers during the 2022 and 2024 seasons and helped Cleveland State reach the ASUN Tournament for the first time in program history. The Vikings earned their first ASUN Tournament victory during that run.
Season tickets are on sale for the 2027 season, and can be purchased here.
