PROVO, Utah – The University of Denver women's tennis team (5-1, 0-0 Summit) hit the road for the first time in 2026 but dropped a 4-2 result at BYU on Saturday.
In its first of consecutive matches against an opponent from the Big 12 Conference, DU battled through doubles to take the day's first point. BYU leveled things at 1-1 before senior
Louise Wikander reclaimed a lead for Denver, 2-1. However, the host team used three straight wins in singles to clinch the dual.
Doubles:
Denver's doubles squad rallied after dropping the No. 1 match up with wins in the final two matches to win the dual's first point. The No. 3 team of senior
Zoe Adkins and sophomore
Natálie Cinková evened it up with 6-4 win, leaving the No. 2 match to decide it. DU's team of Wikander and freshman
Yunfei Cai came out on top in a tiebreak to secure the point.
Singles:
BYU drew level with a win at No. 2 singles, but Wikander won her fifth match of the year at No. 1 singles to give DU a lead again. She split the first two sets – both 6-1 scorelines – before locking in for the third set to take it, 6-3.
The next two matches to finish also went to decisive sets after tightly-contested first and second sets but ultimately saw BYU get the wins at Nos. 3 and 4 singles.
The Nos. 5 and 6 matches did not get started immediately with only four courts available, meaning the dual would be decided in those two match ups. BYU clinched the dual at a win on the No. 5 court, though DU senior
Hana Bečirovič Novak was just one game away from a straight-sets victory at No. 6 singles when the match was abandoned.
