Denver Men’s Tennis Adds Two for Spring 2026

Dylan Davis, Ander Tarrio Ponte to enroll at DU in spring quarter 2026

DENVER – The University of Denver men's tennis team will welcome Dylan Davies and Ander Tarrio Ponte during the current 2026 spring season, head coach Drew Eberly announced on Tuesday.

Davies and Tarrio Ponte will enroll at the University of Denver beginning in spring quarter 2026 and will join the Denver men's tennis team at the same time. They are expected to arrive in Denver in late March.

Davies is from Derby, England, and achieved a career high IFT junior ranking of No. 200 in March 2025. In July 2025, he played in the main draw of the boys' singles draw at Wimbledon, falling in a tough three-set match in the first round. He also split sets in the first round of the doubles draw before coming up short in a 10-point match tiebreak.

In his junior career, he accumulated five ITF singles titles and added three more doubles titles while also qualifying for the M25 Nottingham tournament in singles in April 2025. He owns a career-high United Kingdom U18 ranking of No. 5 and currently ranks at No. 8.

Tarrio Ponte calls Santiago de Compostela, Spain, home. In 2024, he collected his first ATP points in doubles and achieved a career-high ranking of No. 2054 in September 2024. Over the last two seasons, he has played in five ITF Futures tournaments in singles across Europe.

So far, he has been ranked as high at No. 284 in the ITF senior rankings (October 2025) and currently ranks just outside the top 500. He has been recognized as one of the best U16/U18 players in his home country of Spain as well.

Davies and Tarrio Ponte will join a Denver men's tennis team that is about a month into its 2026 spring dual season, holding a 5-3 overall record thus far. The Pioneers are seeking a third consecutive Summit League title in DU's final season in the league. For Davies' and Tarrio Ponte's first full season at DU in 2026-27, Denver will be a member of the West Coast Conference.

The two newest Pioneers will join the team as Denver gets ready to kick off its 2026 Summit League campaign when it hosts Illinois State on April 3. Before they arrive in Denver, the Pioneers will have played seven more matches, beginning with its only home match of the stretch against No. 57 BYU on Friday, February 27.
