BOZEMAN, Mont./MIDWAY, Utah – Second-place finishes from Seniors
Eve-Ondine Duchaufour in women's Nordic and
Mia Hunt in women's alpine led the Denver Pioneers ski team on the first day of the 77th annual RMISA Championships.
Denver totaled 290 points and is in second place at the midway point of the conference meet, which doubles as the NCAA West Regional. The Pioneers trail leader Utah by 54 points and are four points ahead of Colorado in third.
Montana State is hosting this year's RMISA Championships, which is split between Bridger Bowl Ski Area in Bozeman, Montana, and Soldier Hollow Nordic Center in Midway, Utah. The cross county events were forced to be relocated from Montana to Utah due to snow conditions at the original venue.
Duchaufour's runner-up finish in the interval start race of the 7.5-kilometer classical was a personal best and marked her second career podium result. She previously placed third in the 15K freestyle at the Soldier Hollow course during the 2025 Utah Invitational.
"It was another really warm day at RMISA regionals at Soldier Hollow," said Denver skiing Nordic head coach
Eliska Albrigtsen. "The men had a solid race performance, but they knew they left some in the tank. The women took that to heart and went for it from the start.
"Eve-Ondine has been knocking on the door of the podium the whole season, so when she came to the first split at third place, I knew she will be there today. She had a great sprint the final 500 meters and had a massive smile at the end."
Junior
Maja Moland also posted a top-10 finish in ninth and freshman
Synne Bollingmo came in 14th for the women.
Sophomore
Eemil Juntunen guided DU's men in the classic in seventh while graduate student
Sondre Oestervold finished 11th and freshman
Yannick Zellweger came in 14th. Senior
Krystof Zatloukal was 19th, fellow classmate
Micah Steinberg ended up two spots behind in 21st and sophomore
Joe Graziadei came in 24th.
In Montana, Hunt produced the fastest second run in women's slalom to move from eighth to second for her second consecutive runner-up placement. She now owns four podiums this season—the first of her career—and also placed second in Thursday's slalom at the RMISA Alpine Qualifier.
Sophomore
Stella Buchheister was just off the stage by placing fourth while all five DU women that finished posted top-12 placements. Senior
Josephine Trueblood earned her second top 10 of her career in 10th, while freshman
Elisabeth Cregiton was 11th and senior
Nicola Rountree-Williams was 12th.
Senior
Christian Soevik led DU's men by coming in seventh in slalom, his eighth top 10 of the season. Grad student
Eirik Kveno was 16th and freshman
Caman Beauregard finished 18th.
"Our depth really showed up today, and we're happy for Mia to get back on the podium and happy for Stella for putting together another great performance and just missing the podium," said DU's Otto Tschudi Head Alpine Skiing Coach
Joonas Rasanen. "Christian is definitely peaking at the right time, and we're excited for the men to show what they got in a few weeks at NCAA. Excited for tomorrow, and we're going to put together a strong GS showing and hopefully we can bring home the title."
Graduate student
Sara Rask and freshman
Cecilia Pizzinato both didn't finish their second runs on the women's side, while seniors
Adrian Minde Hunshammer and
Thomas Hoffman registered DNF's in the men's run 1. Rask was leading after the first women's session, and Pizzinato also had a strong morning performance in sixth.
UP NEXT: The RMISA Championships conclude on Saturday with the Nordic 20K freestyle mass start at Soldier Hollow Nordic Center in Utah while alpine takes to the giant slalom course at Bridger Bowl Ski Area in Montana. The NCAA Championships are March 11-15 at Utah Olympic Park and Soldier Hollow.
