DU Women’s Tennis Again Sweeps Weekly Summit League Honors

Wikander earns second straight Player of the Week nod; Becirovic Novak/Lambert collect Doubles Team award

DENVER – University of Denver women's tennis players Louise Wikander, Hana Bečirovič Novak and Marley Lambert combined to sweep the Kwik Star Summit League Players of the Week awards for the third week of the season, the Summit League announced on Tuesday.

Wikander was named the Summit League Singles Peak Performer of the Week for the second week in a row while fellow senior Bečirovič Novak/Lambert earned the Doubles Peak Team of the Week nod.

Week 3 marks the second consecutive week that Denver women's players swept the weekly Summit League awards.

Wikander moved to 3-0 on the year in singles and had still yet to drop a set after winning 6-1 6-1 against Miami (OH) and 6-2 6-4 against Colorado – both at the No. 1 slot – on January 31 and February 1, respectively. Her win against Miami (OH) was part of DU's 7-0 sweep of the Redhawks, and she pulled Denver even with CU at 1-1 as DU began its eventual 4-2 come-from-behind win against its in-state rival.

Bečirovič Novak/Lambert also won both of their matches on the weekend with matching 6-2 scorelines and also did so from the top of Denver's lineup. They first clinched the doubles point against Miami (OH) and then added a win against Colorado in the first doubles match to wrap up in the dual.

This is the fourth Singles Peak Performer of the Week of Wikander's career and the first Doubles Peak Team of the Week award for Bečirovič Novak/Lambert as a doubles team.  Lambert now owns a combined five doubles weekly honors in her career while Bečirovič Novak collected the first of her career.

This week's awards are the third and fourth for DU women's players this season.

Denver wraps up its season-beginning home stand with two more matches against in-state opponents when DU hosts Air Force and Colorado State on February 6-7 at Denver Tennis Park.
