Denver Women’s Tennis Ready to Host Two In-State Opponents

DU to welcome Air Force, Colorado State on back-to-back days at Denver Tennis Park

DENVER – The University of Denver women's tennis team will host Air Force and Colorado State in two more duals against in-state opponents on February 6-7.

DU will first welcome Air Force on Friday, February 6, at 1 p.m. MT before hosting Colorado State a day later on Sunday, February 7, at 4 p.m. MT.

All home matches are held at Denver Tennis Park, and admission and parking are free.

LAST TIME OUT:
Denver moved to 3-0 to begin the dual season with a 7-0 sweep of Miami (OH) before battling back against in-state rival Colorado for a 4-2 victory last weekend.

Against the Redhawks, DU lost only two games in doubles in the two matches that reached a conclusion before collecting five wins in straight sets to begin singles play. Leading the way was senior Louise Wikander – now ranked No. 125 nationally – with just two games dropped in the No. 1 spot and freshman Yunfei Cai, who lost just one more game than Wikander. Seniors Marley Lambert and Zoe Adkins, and sophomore Natálie Cinková also won in two sets before freshman Ruby Hansen earned a win after claiming a second-set tiebreak to force a deciding set before her opponent retired with an injury.

In what was a contentious battle from the start, DU overcame a 0-1 deficit following doubles to rally for a 4-2 win against Colorado to finish the weekend. Wikander again earned the first singles point of the match, again winning in straight sets, but CU climbed back ahead, 2-1, after claiming the No. 3 singles match. Denver again drew level off Cinková's 6-4 6-4 win at the No. 4 spot, and senior Hana Bečirovič Novak gave DU's its first lead of the day with a straight-sets win at No. 5. In a back-and-forth match, freshman Yunfei Cai clinched the win, coming back from a set down at No. 6 singles.
