DENVER – The University of Denver women's tennis team moved to 4-0 to start the 2026 season with its second sweep of the year, earning a 4-0 win over Air Force at Denver Tennis Park on Friday afternoon.
After splitting the first two doubles matches, DU clinched the first point in a tiebreak on Court 2 after just more than an hour of play. Denver then won three singles matches within about the same amount of time it took to win the doubles point, needing an average of 1:15 to secure the singles victories on Nos. 1, 5 and 6.
Doubles:
Denver's No. 3 doubles team of senior
Zoe Adkins and sophomore
Natálie Cinková gave the Pioneers the early lead with an easy 6-1 win. Each team held in their opening service game before Adkins/Cinková broke in the third game to begin a four-game win streak to seal it.
Three consecutive breaks went the way of Air Force to finish a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles, turning all attention to the No. 2 match to determine the first point of the day. Every game went the way of the serving team, sending play to a tiebreak. DU's team of senior
Louise Wikander and freshman
Yunfei Cai raced out to a 4-0 lead and stretched it to 6-2 where they converted their first set point to clinch the point for Denver.
Singles:
The three clinching singles matches all finished within five minutes of each other, starting with Cai's dominant performance at No. 6 singles, dropping just one game and marking the freshman's third time through her first four duals to lose three or fewer total games. During Friday's match, she won the first 10 games before her opponent was able to hold for the first and only time.
Wikander continued her perfect 4-0 streak without losing a set to begin the 2026 dual season at No. 1 singles, giving Denver a 3-0 lead overall. She traded breaks to begin the match before taking a break lead for 4-3 in the first set on her way to a 6-4 win. The senior followed it up with three consecutive games to start the second set before going up another break at 4-1 and closing it at 6-1.
Moments later, fellow senior
Hana Becirovic Novak sealed the win for DU with her second win in as many matches after making her season dual debut last weekend. Like Cai, she cruised to a bagel in the first set but faced a tighter second frame. After conceding a break in her second service game of the set, she broke right back and kept things on serve until breaking it what would be the final game for 6-4.
With a Denver men's tennis match awaiting a start, the remaining three matches were abandoned. Senior
Marley Lambert was in the middle of a comeback from a set down, sitting up a break in the third set. Adkins, too, dropped her opening set but was on serve a 4-4 in the second set. CInková was a game away from a win at No. 4 singles as well.
