DENVER – The University of Denver women's tennis team moved won its second consecutive match featuring a 4-0 sweep of an in-state opponent with its victory over Colorado State at Denver Tennis Park on Saturday.
Doubles came down to a result in favor of the Pioneers on the No. 1 court before the team's Nos. 4, 5 and 6 singles all came through in straight sets to clinch the win.
Doubles:
The battle for the doubles point once again went the distance and saw seniors
Hana Bečirovič Novak and
Marley Lambert secure it with a 6-4 win, earning the first break in the third game to gain what would be the decisive lead.
Senior
Zoe Adkins and sophomore
Natalie Cinková started DU's run to the doubles point with a convincing 6-2 win at the No. 3 spot. They won the match's first three games, earning two breaks to do so, but saw CSU get one of the breaks back. Adkins/Cinková reclaimed a two-break advantage to go up 5-2, though, and successfully served it out.
CSU kept alive for the point with a 6-4 win in the No. 2 match but saw Denver clinch the point on Court 1 just moments later.
Singles:
The back half of Denver's singles lineup earned all three points for DU to complete the sweep, each doing so in just two sets. Cinková got things going with matching 6-1 sets at No. 4 singles., doing so with nearly identical paths in each frame that saw her break in her first return games before racing through each set.
After moving up into the lineup as a substitution, freshman
Ruby Hansen dropped just a single game to keep her perfect on the year so far with what became her best collegiate result yet. She followed up a bagel in the first set by winning the first two games and the last four games of the second set on her way to win.
Fellow freshman
Yunfei Cai again clinched the dual for Denver, sliding up in the lineup to No. 5. She won the first three games of the match and maintained the break lead all the way to a hold for 6-4. The second set saw her break to open things up and only saw her opponent hold serve once two games later before Cai secured it, 6-1.
In the unfinished matches, senior
Louise Wikander was up a set and on serve at 4-4 in the second. Adkins followed a similar patter, winning her first set but sitting at 3-3 in the second. Lambert also won her first set but dropped the second and was headed to a decider when the dual was ended.
