Denver Dominates in Win Over High Point

DENVER -- The University of Denver women's lacrosse remains undefeated with an 18-6 win over High Point University on Sunday afternoon at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.

The Pioneers controlled the game from the opening draw, overcoming an early yellow card with a key save from goalkeeper Gwaku to keep High Point off the board. Ripple scored the first goal of the game to give DU a 1-0 lead at the 11-minute mark of the first quarter. Back-to-back yellow cards on High Point gave Denver a 7-on-5 advantage, and Keil capitalized on a free-position opportunity to make it 2-0. Mutch scored her first of three goals on the day off a feed from Dineen, then added an unassisted goal less than a minute later to extend the lead to 4-0. High Point answered to make it 4-1, but Thomsen-Marr scored in traffic off Ripple's assist with just over four minutes left in the quarter to give Denver a 5-1 lead after one.

After a stretch of turnovers and failed clears by both teams to open the second quarter, Keil split a double team for her second goal to push the advantage to 6-1. Ripple fired a shot into the top corner, then assisted on back-to-back goals by Thomsen-Marr to make it 9-1. Dineen converted a free-position opportunity, and Keil completed her hat trick with another free-position goal with just over a minute remaining to give Denver an 11-1 lead at halftime.

High Point opened the third quarter with a man-up goal, but Denver continued to roll offensively. Bowers scored her first of the game off a Ripple assist, and Mutch notched her first career hat trick to give Denver a 13-2 advantage. Thomsen-Marr added her fourth goal of the afternoon before Ripple tallied her third, off a feed from Thomsen-Marr, to give the Pioneers a 15-4 lead with one quarter remaining.

Ripple added a man-down goal to make it 16-4, and Megan Myers scored off another Ripple assist. Lindy Briggs netted her first career goal off a pass from Dineen to stretch the lead to 18-4. High Point scored twice late, but Denver closed out the 18-6 victory.
