DENVER – The No. 73-ranked University of Denver men's tennis team (14-5, 3-0 Summit) celebrated Senior Day with a 4-1 win against Nevada at Denver Tennis Park on Sunday afternoon.
In what was DU's final home and non-conference match of the season, Denver responded after dropping the doubles point to win four singles matches in two sets to secure the dual at 4-1.
Doubles:
It took a tiebreak on the third and final doubles match to break DU's eight-match doubles point win streak. Nevada got halfway to the point with a 6-4 win on the top court – the only doubles match not to go to a breaker.
Senior
Ryoma Mishiro and sophomore
Samuel Rovai leveled things at No. 2 doubles. Neither team was able to break serve, sending things to the tiebreak. A 4-2 lead for Mishiro/Rovai at the changeover set the Pioneers up for an eventual 7-4 win.
The No. 3 doubles featuring senior
Raffaello Papajcik and freshman
Aaron Beduhn also saw holds the entire way through, a preview of a tight tiebreak where the DU team held match point at 6-4 until Nevada's Cressi/Hyusmans won four points in a row to take the match and the doubles point at 8-6.
Singles:
Denver responded quickly with a hot start in singles, winning five of six first sets of the way to capturing the first four matches and clinching the dual.
Graduate student
Connor Robb-Wilcox drew DU level at 1-1 after moving up to the No. 4 singles position for the second time in the last three duals and extended his win streak to six, all in straight sets. With just one game lost – coming in the ninth game of the match – he set a new personal best for a result in the dual season and equaled his best overall singles score of the 2025-26 campaign.
Denver took the lead with a 6-2 6-0 result from Coats at No. 3 singles, also his sixth win in as many matches and his third of the dual season with three or fewer games lost. Play began on serve until Coats earned his first of five consecutive breaks of his opponent's serve for a 3-2 advantage in the first set.
Beduhn won for the 10
th time in dual-match play, needing just two sets to do so once more. A three-game win streak in the first set gave him a 3-1 lead, which he turned into a 5-3 advantage on his way to a 6-4 set. He faced a break deficit at the beginning of the second set but turned things around quickly, leveling it at 2-2 before going up a break of his own and winning the final five games for a 6-2 win.
Mere seconds later, Papajcik clinched the dual for Denver with his 10
th win at No. 1 singles this year, doing so with two 6-3 sets. He traded breaks in consecutive games early on before going up a break for the first time at 5-3 and served it out in the next game. In the second set, he grabbed the first break for 3-2 and added an insurance break for 5-2. Nevada's Axel Huysmans got one break back, but Papajcik responded in the next game by breaking once more, this time to win the set.
Two matches ended without a result, starting with Mishiro at the No. 5 spot. He held a break lead in the first set but found himself in a tiebreak in which he claimed a 6-0 lead. Nevada's Nicolas Recoura won three consecutive points, but Mishiro settled back in before sealing it at 7-4. The Denver senior had just broken in the second set when the match was abandoned
At No. 2 singles, Rovai responded to losing the first set by easing through the second set, 6-0, forcing a decisive set. Nevada's Remy Tregoures broke to begin the final set and was up 3-0 when Papajcik clinched the dual and forced the match to go unfinished.
