DU Tennis’ Wikander, Martinez de Velasco Sweep Weekly League Honors

Denver seniors combine for Peak Performer, Doubles Peak Team of the Week nods

DENVER – University of Denver women's tennis players Louise Wikander and Claudia Martinez de Velasco combined to sweep the Kwik Star Summit League Players of the Week awards for the 12th week of the season, the Summit League announced on Tuesday.

For the second time in 2026, Wikander was named the Summit League Singles Peak Performer of the Week while also earning a Doubles Peak Team of the Week honor with doubles partner Martinez de Velasco.

Wikander won her only completed singles match last week, dropping just three games from the No. 1 singles spot against Kansas City. Her 6-2 6-1 result gave DU a 3-0 lead on its way to an eventual 7-0 sweep of UMKC in Denver's return to Summit League play. The DU senior had also begun a comeback from a set down against Tulsa, forcing a third set after taking the second, 6-3, but had her match abandoned at 1-1 in the third.

Martinez de Velasco/Wikander lost just three total games across both of their doubles matches, beginning with a 6-1 result at Tulsa on Friday. They backed it up with a 6-2 win again from the No. 2 spot in DU's sweep of Kansas City, which was the first match to wrap up on the way to Denver eventually taking the doubles point.

This is the fourth time that Denver has swept the Summit League women's tennis weekly awards in 2026 and the second time that Wikander and Martinez de Velasco have done so together, first doing so on January 27. Wikander was also part of another sweep a week later, taking the Peak Performer nod while fellow seniors Hana Bečirovič Novak and Marley Lambert claimed the Doubles Peak Team honor on February 3.

Wikander now owns 10 career weekly Summit League awards, six of which have come this season. This is her sixth career Peak Performer of the Week honor and her fourth Doubles Peak Team nod, all four coming with Martinez de Velasco. Those Doubles Peak Team of the Week honors for Martinez de Velasco/Wikander account for four of Martinez de Velasco's six career weekly Summit League awards as well.

In total, seven DU players have now combined for 10 total Summit League honors this year.

The University of Denver women's tennis team returns to Denver Tennis Park for its final home matches of the season, hosting Oral Roberts on Friday, April 10, at 2 p.m. MT and then welcoming North Dakota on Saturday, April 11, at 11 a.m. MT.
