Eggleston, Perry Race at U.S. Junior Elite Nationals

Incoming freshmen compete with some of the best under-20 triathletes
DENVER – Two incoming freshmen on the Denver Pioneers women's triathlon team raced this past weekend at the USA Triathlon Junior Elite National Championships at Voice of America Park in West Chester, Ohio.
In the women's sprint race on Saturday, Aug. 1, the Denver duo finished within 30 seconds of one another. Lucy Eggleston of Randleman, North Carolina, finished 45th in a time of 1:07:08 while Samantha Perry of Jacksonville, Florida, placed 47th by clocking in at 1:07:38.
Amelia Avila won the individual race with a time of 1:01:15.71 while Angelica Hil was second (1:03:24.15) and Ellie Harlow was third (1:02:08:55).
Eggleston also raced on Saturday, Aug. 2 in the Mixed Team Relay with the Lightning Warriors and the Unattachables C Team and placed fourth with a total time of 1:08:24.49, coming nine seconds off the podium. The DU rookie did the second of the four legs for the squad and recorded a split with a 3:41 swim, 7:31 bike and 4:42 run.
The Denver triathlon team will report to campus to begin pre-season training in the next two weeks and opens its 2026 campaign in September. The full schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.
