Pioneers Fall to Tarleton State in Five Sets

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The University of Denver volleyball team dropped a five-set match to host Tarleton State on Friday at the Tarleton State Invitational, falling 3-2. The Pioneers dropped the opening set, 23-25, before responding with a 25-23 victory in the second. Tarleton State took the third set, 17-25, before Denver forced a deciding fifth set with a 25-14 fourth-set win. The Texans closed out the match with a 8-15 victory in the fifth.
The loss moves Denver to 5-3 on the season.
LEADERS
Jamia Johnson led the Pioneers with 18 kills, while Alicia Thibodeau added 11 and Romi Chlebecek contributed eight. Lily Van Hal recorded a career-high 34 assists, while Madison Winkler anchored the Denver defense with a career-high 33 digs.
UP NEXT
The Pioneers will close out the Tarleton State Invitational on Saturday, facing Sam Houston at 12 p.m. MT in Stephenville, Texas.
