Denver Men’s Tennis Adds 10 Wins at Bedford Cup Day 2

Glarner/Samuel, Beduhn/Davies win quarterfinal matchups before falling in semis; Kotarski/Tsarenko win both consolation matchups on Saturday
USAFA, Colorado – The University of Denver men's tennis team saw two of its player pairings pick up quarterfinal victories as part of a 10-win day for the Pioneers at the 2026 Bedford Cup in the Mountains, hosted by the Air Force Academy, on Saturday.
Denver's pairings of freshmen Roman Glarner and Rafe Samuel, and sophomores Aaron Beduhn and Dylan Davies both won their quarterfinals to start the day, though neither was able to advance out of the semifinals.
Junior Alex Kotarski and freshman Platon Tsarenko also played two matchups in the back draw and won both.
The duo of Glarner/Samuel advanced to the semifinals off a win 6-4 win in doubles before splitting singles results. Glarner secured the duo-winning point with a dominant straight-sets win, dropping only two total games. Samuel won his first set but lost the second, though with Glarner already having advanced the Pioneers to the semifinals, Samuel's match was decided by a match tiebreak in place of a third set. The 10-point tiebreak proved competitive with Samuel coming up just shy, 13-15.
In the semifinals, Glarner/Samuel came up against a tough Air Force team and ultimately bowed out of the main draw with losses in the doubles match and both singles contests.
Beduhn/Davies, Denver's second set of quarterfinalists, joined the freshman duo in the semifinals in similar fashion, first by winning the doubles point off a late break for a 7-5 victory. Davies secured the Pioneers' spot in the semifinals after winning in straight sets in singles, sealing it with a second-set tiebreak. Beduhn, like Samuel, split sets before facing a match tiebreak and also narrowly losing, 8-10.
The two sophomores came up short in their semifinal doubles contest, and their opponents from Montana State would move on in the bracket after earning a singles win in two sets over Davies. Beduhn was able to sneak another victory for Denver, though, fighting back from a set down to earn the singles win in three full sets.
Kotarski/Tsarenko picked up where they left off on Friday, winning two more matchups in the back draw on Saturday. In total, they went five-for-six on the day, winning all four of their singles matches and only losing once in doubles. Kotarski won both of his singles matches in nearly identical fashion, claiming the first set in a tiebreak both times before closing it out, 6-2, in the second. Tsarenko started the day with a successful rally from a set down to seal a match in a 10-point tiebreak, and he added two 6-4 wins in his second singles match.
The Bedford Cup concludes on Sunday with the finals and consolation matches with play set to begin at 9 a.m. MT.
