Pioneers Set for Inaugural WCC Matches at Hamilton

DENVER – The Pioneers open West Coast Conference play this week, hosting a pair of matches at Hamilton Gymnasium.Â
Denver will welcome Pacific on Thursday at 6 p.m. MT before hosting Saint Mary's on Saturday at 1 p.m. MT. Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
Denver enters WCC play with a 7-5 record after going 1-2 at the UNC Volleyball Invitational last weekend. The Pioneers opened the tournament with a three-set sweep of Air Force before falling to Northern Colorado and Utah.
Thursday's matchup with Pacific will mark the first meeting between the Pioneers and Tigers. Denver will then face Saint Mary's on Saturday. The Pioneers have faced the Gaels once previously, earning a 3-1 victory on Aug. 24, 2018, in Salt Lake City.
Jamia Johnson leads the Pioneers offensively with 132 kills, while Alicia Thibodeau has added 122. Madison Winkler anchors the Denver defense with 227 digs, while Lily Van Hal and Ilayda Eren have paced the offense with 240 and 226 assists, respectively.
The Pioneers are 4-0 at Hamilton Gymnasium this season and will look to continue that home success as they begin their first season of WCC competition.
