Who is a Representative of Athletic Interests (Booster/Athletic Donor)?
The NCAA considers someone a booster or a representative of athletic interests if they:
Are a member of or participated in the activities of a booster club or group that supports University of Denver Athletics, such as Pioneer Movement;
-Hold, or have ever held, season tickets for any sport at the University of Denver;
-Have made a financial contribution, including cash, trade or gifts-in-kind to an athletics booster organization, or to the Department of Athletics;
-Have been involved in recruiting prospects or providing benefits to enrolled student-athletes or their families (e.g assistance finding a job, occasional meals, etc.)
-Have assisted in the promotion of University of Denver Athletics.
Once an individual is identified as a representative of athletic interests, that status is retained INDEFINITELY.
Who is a Prospective Student-Athlete?
A prospective student-athlete (prospect, recruit) is any student who has started classes for the ninth grade (seventh grade for Men’s Basketball). Also, a student who has not started classes for the ninth grade becomes a prospect if the institution provides such an individual (or his/her relatives or friends) with any financial assistance or other benefits that the institution does not provide to other prospective students. An individual remains a prospect until he or she begins classes as a full-time student or attends an official team practice (including pre-season) at DU. Contact between a representative of athletic interests (alumni, friend, fan, and donor) and a prospect is restricted until the prospect begins classes or reports for an official team practice.
