Bailey Mathis

Bailey Mathis was named the new director of operations for the University of Denver women’s lacrosse program in August of 2017.

“Bailey reached out to me over the summer about her plans to attend DU this fall and her interest in assisting the women’s lacrosse program in some capacity,” said head coach Liza Kelly.  “It was apparent immediately that Bailey has a deep love and knowledge of the sport. We are lucky to have her as our new director of lacrosse operations.”

Mathis recently graduated from Loyola University Maryland in 2017. She was a four-year starter for the Greyhounds and was named a regional All-American.  As a defender, Mathis was considered the top match-up defender on the team, and finished with 55 ground balls, 62 draw controls and 45 caused turnovers, while playing in all 82 games throughout her career.  As a sophomore, Mathis played as a midfielder as well, scoring three goals.

As a result of her play on the field, she was a three-time All-Patriot League award winner, and was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week in 2014.  In 2016, Mathis was invited to the US National Team tryouts.

Academically, Mathis was named the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women’s lacrosse in 2017, was a three-time Patriot League All-Academic Team member and was named to the IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Roll in 2016.

Mathis was recently drafted by the New England Command from the Women’s Professional Lacrosse League, and starting in the fall, she will be a graduate student at DU studying sport and performance psychology.

“I am so thrilled that Liza has granted me the opportunity to continue to stay involved with college athletics,” said Mathis. “As a former Division I lacrosse player, I understand just how important the director of operations position is in ensuring the success of a program.

“I am eager to help the coaching staff in any way that I can.  I can’t wait to get to know the girls and hopefully be able to share some of my past experiences with them, so that their collegiate experience is the best that it can possibly be.”

Her tasks with the lacrosse program will be to assist with game day operations, travel and equipment.
