Jim Stone enters his first season as Assistant Coach for the Pioneers in 2022.
Considered one of the best collegiate coaches of his time while on the sidelines at Ohio State as head coach, he spent 26 years at the helm of the program, arriving in Columbus in 1982 and serving through the 2007 season, making him the longest tenured coach in program history.
Stone racked up a program-record 531 wins during his time there, including 297 in conference play, which both rank fourth in overall and conference wins in Big Ten history.
Stone led the Buckeyes to 15 NCAA Tournament appearances, reaching the semifinals in 1991 and 1994. He was inducted in the OSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2012, joining nine of his former players. Stone coached 17 AVCA All-Americans and two AVCA National Players of the Year.
Since retiring as head coach at Ohio State in 2007, Stone has been busy working within the USA Volleyball High Performance pipeline serving as head coach of the U.S. Girls’ Youth National Team. He served as head coach for the U.S. Girls’ Youth National Team, earning a ninth-place finish at the 2011 FIVB Girls’ Youth World Championship and the gold medal at the 2010 NORCECA Girls’ Youth Continental Championship. He also served at the head man for the U.S. Girls’ Youth National Team at the 2010 USA Volleyball High Performance Championships, leading them to a gold medal in the Women’s International Junior Division. Shortly after, Stone served as the assistant coach for the U.S. Women’s National Team during its gold-medal performance at the FIVB World Grand Prix.
