COLORADO SPRINGS -- University of Denver junior forward Matt Harrell (Littleton, Colo.) scored two goals and junior midfielder Michael Piserchio (Littleton, Colo.) contributed two assists to help the Pioneers down conference foe Air Force Academy 2-1 Friday afternoon at Cadet Soccer stadium.
Denver (7-4, 3-1 MPSF) took an early lead, scoring just five minutes into the game. Harrell took a pass from Pisercchio, then beat his defender and punched in an easy shot past Air Force (5-5-1, 2-2) goalkeeper Mike Brophy. At the 29:43 mark, Falcon forward Britton Miller scored the equalizer, taking a cross from Matt Rabe and drilling it into the net.
With 18 minutes remaining in the game and the score tied 1-1, Harrell once again hooked up with Piserchio to score his second goal of the afternoon, the game-winner. Harrell collected Piserchio's pass, used some nifty footwork to beat several defenders, then fired a shot from 18 yards away just past the outstretched arms of Brophy.
The Pioneers will face Air Force again this Sunday, October 22 in Denver. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m.
