DENVER -- The University of Denver men's and women's swimming and diving teams suffered defeat to Florida Atlantic University Tuesday afternoon in Boca Raton, Fla. The women (3-4) lost by a score of 124-69 and the men (3-4) lost 136-66. Both teams won two of the 22 events.
Junior Sarah Corcoran (Denver, Colo.) led the women with 18 points by winning the 50-yard freestyle (24.44) and the 100-yard freestyle (53.21). She was followed by freshman Michelle Woidneck (Maurice, La.) who added seven points, which included a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (5:37.41). Senior Kerith Kanaber (Littleton, Colo.) and sophomore Natalie Sandbothe (Albuquerque, N.M.) each contributed six points for Denver. Kanaber placed second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:12.94) and Sandbothe finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.96).
The men were led by junior Brian Keats (Toronto, Ontario) who scored 11 points that included a first-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke (1:54.64) and a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley (2:00.41). He was followed by senior Robert Brooks (Denver, Colo.) who contributed nine points with a victory in the 50-yard freestyle (time not available) and freshman Greg Cox (Aurora, Colo.) who added six points that included a second-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:07.28).
The Pioneers return to action this Friday when they take on Florida A&M in Tallahassee, Fla. The meet is set to begin at 3 p.m. MST.
