Pioneers Sweep Colorado College

DENVER - The University of Denver men's and women's swimming and diving teams both posted dominating performances Friday afternoon at El Pomar Natatorium, sweeping dual meets over Colorado College. The women won 154-83, while the men won 140-80.

Sophomore Charity Ziegler (River Ridge, La. / Chapelle HS) and Sarah Corcoran (Denver, Colo. / South HS) each won two events for the women. Ziegler took the 50-yard freestyle in 25.56 seconds and the 100-yard butterfly in 1:01.27, while Corcoran won the 200 individual medley (2:16.26) and the 100 backstroke (1:02.32). Other individual winners for the women included Helen Rychecky (Littleton, Colo. / Heritage HS), who won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:58.12, Erin Moir (Houston, Texas / Lamar HS), who took the 200 free in 2:02.42, Erin Lundy (St. Charles, Ill. / St. Charles HS) in the 100 free (54.54), and Kerith Kanaber (Littleton, Colo. / St. Mary's HS) in the 100 back (1:09.41).

Eight different Pioneers took the eight men's victories, led by John Kolstoe (Fort Collins, Colo. / Fort Collins HS) in the 1,000-yard freestyle, who posted a staggering 1:34 victory over teammate Bradley Thompson (Las Vegas, Nev. / Durango HS) in the first individual event of the night. The Pioneers also swept the top four spots in the 50 free, led by Ian Ivarson (San Rafael, Calif. / Marin Catholic HS).

The Pioneers are off from competition until the week after Thanksgiving, when Denver travels to Long Beach, Calif., for a meet on Wednesday, Nov. 28, against UC-Irvine, Cal Poly, Hawaii and Pacific.
