Men's Soccer Falls to Gonzaga, 1-0

PORTLAND, Ore. - Gonzaga used a 30th minute goal from Mike Herzog to beat the University of Denver men's soccer team, 1-0, Monday afternoon in Portland, Ore. Both teams are now 1-1 on the season.

Herzog came off the bench to score the game's only goal at 29:29, taking a short cross from Scott Yuska, then slicing the ball past Denver junior Parker Jarvis (San Juan Capistrano, Calif. / Dana Hills HS) from less than six yards out. The Bulldogs outshot Denver just 8-7, but Jarvis made six saves to keep the match close.

The Pioneers return home this coming weekend for the annual John Byrden Classic. Denver hosts Xavier at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7, and Loyola (Ill.) at 1 p.m. next Sunday, Sept. 9.
