Oct. 5, 2002

Box Score

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CALIF. - The University of Denver men's soccer team was defeated, 1-0, by Cal Poly as J.J. Young scored his first career goal Friday night.

Young's goal came in the 83rd minute, putting in a rebound of a deflected corner kick from Scott Gellman. His goal came after both teams wasted a myriad of scoring chances throughout the game.

A very physical tempo ensued from the opening kickoff, with 37 fouls exchanges between both teams. Six yellow cards were issued in the game.

The Mustangs outshot the Pioneers, 10-5, and Luke Albertalli recorded his two saves en route to a shutout in his first career start.

Cal Poly improved to 2-7 on the season, snapping a five-game losing streak. Denver, an 8-0 winner over Cal Poly two years ago, dropped to 6-5 on the season.

Denver returns to action on Oct. 6 when it visits Cal State Northridge. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
