Denver Men Drop Heartbreaker, 1-0

Oct. 26, 2003

DENVER - Sophomore goalkeeper Lami Harmon's (Newark, Del.) eight saves were not enough as the University of Denver men's soccer team fell to New Mexico, 1-0, in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation action this afternoon at Pioneer Field. With the loss, Denver's mark drops to 7-7-2, 1-2-1. The Lobos are now 4-8-3, 1-2-0.

New Mexico's Ben Ashwill netted the match's lone goal with one second remaining in the second overtime period. Ashwill managed to get his foot on a loose ball and deposit it into an empty Denver net. It was the Lobos 22 shot.

Denver had several opportunities on the afternoon but was unable to solve New Mexico goal keeper Andrew Weber. Weber made six saves in 110 minutes of scoreless soccer.

"I am really proud of how hard the guys fought," said Head Coach Chad Ashton. "It was our second consecutive double-overtime contest, but the guys still battled for the entire match."

Harmon followed his nine save performance on Friday with another brilliant outing. The sophomore faced 22 shots, making eight saves. He also saw three balls hit the left post behind him and bounce back out. He now has 1.11 goals against average and a .795 saves percentage.

Sophomore Thomas Flynn (Broomfield, Colo.) led Denver offensively with three shots.

The Pioneers conclude their home schedule when they play host to MPSF rival UNLV on Thurs., Oct. 30, at 3:30 p.m.
