Wyoming Swimmers Defeat Denver

DENVER - The University of Denver swimming and diving teams were swept in a dual meet Saturday (Nov. 15) by Wyoming at El Pomar Natatorium, with the women dropping a 134-106 decision and the men falling 162-75.

The Pioneer got a big afternoon from freshman Katie Conyers (Lakewood, Colo.) who won the 200-yard breaststroke with a school-record time of 2:24.88. She also helped Denver's 400-yard medley relay team place first (4:00.69). Freshman Harmony Zeller (Arvada, Colo.) performed strong with wins in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:41.46) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:07.15). The Pioneers' "A" team of sophomore Michaela Amereller (Munich, Germany), Zeller, freshman Meghan McNally (Lonetree, Colo.) and sophomore Lauren Miranda (Louisville, Colo.) captured the 400-freestyle relay.

The men's team got two wins from senior John Kolstoe (Fort Collins, Colo.) and another victory junior Caleb Johnson (Denver, Colo.). Kolstoe won both the 1000-yard freestyle (9:55.80) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:48.69) and Johnson captured the 100-yard freestyle (47.84).

The Pioneers are next in action this Fri., Nov. 21 when they take on the Colorado School of Mines, Metro State and South Dakota at El Pomar Natatorium at 6 p.m.
