ANCHORAGE - Senior Adam Berkhoel (Woodbury, Minn.) made 28 saves and sophomore Brett Skinner (Brandon, Manitoba) scored two goals as the No. 8 Pioneers blanked Alaska Anchorage, 4-0, in WCHA action tonight at Sullivan Arena. The shutout was the seventh of Berkhoel's stellar career at Denver as the Pioneers improved to 7-2-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the WCHA. UAA goes to 4-5-1 overall and 1-4-1 in league play.

Berkhoel set the tone with 15 saves in the opening frame and the Pioneers did the rest in front of their senior netminder. The Pioneers also got goals from juniors Kevin Ulanski (Madison, Wis.) and Luke Fulghum (Colorado Springs, Colo.) in the 4-0 win.

Ulanski staked Denver to a 1-0 lead with a beautiful backhanded goal at 4:34 of the first period. Senior Greg Keith (Delta, B.C.) started the play by feeding sophomore Jeff Drummond (Leduc, Alberta), who hit a streaking Ulanski for the opening score. UAA outshot Denver 15-6 in the period, but Berkhoel stopped all 15 shots.

Skinner gave the Pioneers a 2-0 lead at 4:22 of the second period. UAA goaltender Chris King appeared to have made a save on a shot by sophomore Gabe Gauthier (Buena Park, Calif.), but the shot trickled out and Skinner buried it for his first goal of the season. Fulghum made it 3-0 with a blast from the slot at 11:20. Freshman J.D. Corbin (Littleton, Colo.) made a nifty pass to Fulghum for his first career assist and point. Denver's defense held UAA to just three shots in the period.

Berkhoel, who is now tied for third (with Stephen Wagner) on the all-time shutouts list at Denver, added three saves in the second period and 10 stops in the third. Skinner added an empty-net shorthanded goal at 19:08 for his second score of the night. The Pioneers also killed off a two-minute, 5-on-3 power play by UAA in the period.

Denver returns home for a two-game WCHA series against North Dakota on Nov. 21-22. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. MT on Friday, Nov. 21, and 7:05 p.m. MT on Saturday, Nov. 22.
