Final Stats
Denver - The University of Denver men and women's swimming and diving teams lost two tough meets at home against Utah on Saturday, Nov. 22. The Pioneer men were defeated 184-110 and the women fell 160-129. With the loss, the men fall to 7-7 and the women stand at 9-5 on the season.
The Pioneers opened up the meet with the women and men taking two-third place finishes in the 200-yard medley relays with times of 1:52.12 and 1:37.90, respectively. Freshman Harmony Zeller (Arvada, Colo.) once again dazzled fans as she finished first in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:33.44). Senior John Kolstoe (Fort Collins, Colo.) finished second(9:58.70)in the same event on the men's side.
Sophomore Michaela Amereller (Munich, Germany) came away with a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.78. For the men, junior Caleb Johnson (Denver, Colo.) finished in second in the same event (1:44.95).
Always a consistent swimmer, freshman Craig Jollands (Hillcrest, South Africa) was victorious in the 200-yard backstroke (1:53.15). Junior Jordan Chittley (Toronto, Ontario) led the Pioneers with a second-place finish in 200-yard butterfly (1:57.76). Adding his talent for the Pioneers was senior Greg Dontchos (Denver, Colo.) who took third in the 50-yard freestyle (21.88).
The women proved their confidence with junior Katie Eisenhard (Brownsboro Ala.) taking a second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.13) and freshman Katie Conyers (Lakewood, Colo.) clinching the second place spot in the 100-yd breaststroke (1:07.48). In the 500-yard freestyle, freshman Megan McNally (Lonetree, Colo.) shone for Denver with a second-place finish (5:26.13).
The Pioneers return to action on December 4, 2003 as the men and women head to South Bend, Ind., for the Notre Dame Invitational.
