DENVER - The University of Denver men and women's swimming and diving teams will travel to Boca Raton, Fla., on Saturday, December 20, to compete in the Florida Atlantic Invitational. Teams participating in the Invitational include Florida Atlantic, Clemson and Utah. The first event is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. MT.
The men and women are coming off a seventh and sixth place finish, respectively, at the Notre Dame Invitational. For the women, freshman Harmony Zeller (Arvada, Colo.) slashed Denver's record in the 1650-yard freestyle (17:13.86). She also took top honors and broke another school record in the 500-yard freestyle (4:59.80). Freshman Katie Conyers (Lakewood, Colo.) swam her best and broke Denver's 200-yard breaststroke record (2:24.64). Junior Katie Eisenhard (Brownsboro, Ala.) fared well, notching two top-five performances in the 200-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle. Sophomore Michaela Amereller (Munich, Germany) continued her dominance in the freestyle events, amassing three top-10 finishes in the 50, 200 and 500-yard freestyle events. The women's 800-yard freestyle relay also broke a new school record with a time of 7:37.64.
On the men's side, senior John Kolstoe (Fort Collins, Colo.) clinched a fifth-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (16:04.43) and helped the team to a seventh-place finish in the 800-yard freestyle (6:55.66). Freshman Craig Jollands (Hillcrest, South Africa) took third place in the 200-yard backstroke (1:51.13) and sophomore Chris Seibert (El Paso, Texas) took three top-12 finishes in the 400-yard medley relay, 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard backstroke.
