Box Score

TULSA, Okla. - Freshman forward Kyle Christensen (Layton, Utah) notched two goals as the University of Denver men's soccer team defeated No. 20 Tulsa this evening in Tulsa, Okla. Denver improves to 4-4-1, as Tulsa falls to 6-2.

"We responded very well to adversary this evening," said coach Chad Ashton. "To be able to defeat a team like Tulsa in their house after last night's game shows a lot of character and heart. I was happy how we bounced back."

After a scoreless first half the Golden Hurricane got on the board first when Ryan Pore put a header past sophomore goalkeeper Lami Harmon (Newark, Del.) off a corner kick in the 54th minute. James Dabney and Mario Gonzalez assisted on the play.

Christensen and the Pioneers responded, scoring two goals in the next 20 minutes. Christensen beat Tulsa goalkeeper Terry Boss on the right side from 10 yards. Fellow freshman Mike Seager (Victoria, B.C.) setup the play in the 69th minute.

In the 73rd minute Christensen went one-one-one with Boss and beat the Golden Hurricane keeper to give Denver a 2-1 lead with 17 minutes remaining in the match.

Tulsa would not go down without a fight and tied the game a minute later off a James Dabney goal. Harmon misplayed the ball allowing Dabney to shoot on an empty net.

Sophomore midfielder Travis Hendricks (Englewood, Colo.) would redeem Harmon in the 86th minute. The sophomore put home the game-winning goal in the left corner of the net.

Harmon faced nine shots, making six saves in his fourth win of the season. Christensen registered his team-best second and third goal, while Hendricks notched his second.

Tulsa outshot Denver 16-12 and had a deceive edge in corner kicks, 9-1.

Christensen and senior defender Brian Kneuer (Littleton, Colo.) were named to the all-tournament team for their play the last two nights.

The Pioneers will be back in action on Friday, September 26, when they travel to Kansas City, Mo. to battle the UMKC Kangaroos at 4 p.m MT.
