DENVER - The University of Denver men and women's swimming and diving teams took first place in every event in their sweep of Metro State and Colorado College in El Pomar Natatorium on Jan. 23. The Pioneer men defeated Metro State 168-71 and CC 168-116. The Pioneer women defeated Metro State 180-69 and CC 174-118. The men boost their dual meet record to 8-9 and the women advance to 11-6.
The Pioneers opened the meet strong, with the men and women taking first place in the 200-yard medley relay. Junior Katie Eisenhard (Brownsboro, Ala.) and senior Greg Cox (Aurora, Colo.) clinched the win in the 1000-yard freestyle. Following their lead were freshmen Natalie O'Rourke (Meadow Vista, Calif.) and Craig Jollands (Hillcrest, South Africa), who took the top spot in the 200-yard freestyle. Sophomore Michaela Amereller (Munich, Germany) and freshman Milos Marjanovic (Toronto, Ontario) swept the 100-yard backstroke with teammates Nan Burton (Denver, Colo.) and Chris Seibert (El Paso, Texas) taking the victory in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Denver continued its winning streak as sophomore Christy Breen (Fairport, N.Y.) and junior Jordan Chittley (Toronto, Ontario) took the top spot in the 200-yard butterfly. Sophomore Lauren Miranda (Louisville, Colo.) and freshman Daniel Monsivais (El Paso, Texas) notched the win in the 50-yard freestyle.
Senior diver Keelan Smith (Denver, Colo.) swept the diving competition and freshman Erin Perko (Arvada, Colo.) took second in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. For the men, senior John Conyers (Lakewood, Colo.) also swept the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events.
First-place finishes from Meghan McNally (Lonetree, Colo.), James Monaghan (Toronto, Ontario), Charity Zeigler (River Ridge, La.), Brian McCormick (Denver, Colo.), senior John Kolstoe (Fort Collins, Colo.), Katey Dorweiler (Urbandale, Iowa), Harmony Zeller (Arvada, Colo.) and Nate Chapman (Chesterfield, Mo.) sealed the win for the Pioneers.
The women return to the pool tomorrow, Jan. 24, as they travel to Fort Collins, Colo., to take on Colorado State. The men and women will compete against Colorado School of Mines in Boulder, Colo., on Jan. 30.
