The University of Denver hockey team has gotten bigger.
And not just in the form of season-ticket sales (DU's is up about 1,300), exposure (FSN Rocky Mountain will televise more games) and expectations (the Pioneers are defending national champs).
The Pioneers will literally be huge this season. Their freshman class, which will be on display for the first time tonight, against Windsor in DU's only exhibition, simply is brimming with size.
"We have some young guys that are about 6-(foot)-3 and 210 pounds," senior captain Matt Laatsch said. "So this year we'll not only be able to play the skating game - be able to skate with any team in the country - but we'll also be able to play the physical game with the North Dakotas, the St. Clouds and the Wisconsins."
