SEATTLE - Sophomore midfielder Mike Seager (Victoria, B.C.) scored the Pioneers' lone goal as the University of Denver men's soccer team earned a 1-1 tie with the No. 10 University of Washington Huskies this afternoon in the final game of the Husky Invitational.
Seager's dart from 35 yards out beat Husky keeper Chris Kylander low and right in the 23rd minute. It was Seager's second tally of the season.
Washington's C.J. Klaas notched the game at 1-1 from the left side of box in the 63rd minute.
Newcomer Justin Durst (Destin, Fla.) got the nod in net and played extremely well for Denver. The junior faced 21 shots, registering five saves and only allowing one goal in 110 minutes.
Washington outshot Denver, 21-16. It marked the first time his season that the Pioneers have been outshot.
The Huskies also had a huge edge in corner kicks, attempting 12 to only Denver's two.
The Pioneers have a week off before they begin Mountain Sports Federation League play on Friday, Oct. 1. Denver will host San Jose State at 3:30 p.m.
