Air Force Flies Past Denver, 137-91

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The University of Denver men's swim team was defeated Air Force 137-91 today in Cadet Natatorium. This is the second time this season both teams have met. Sophomore Craig Jollands (Hillcrest, South Africa) was the won the lone individual event for the Pioneers in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:46.45, he also placed fourth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:44.16).

The 200-yard freestyle relay took top honors with a time of 1:26.15 to end the meet. That was the only other first-place finish the Pioneers recorded. The 200-yard medley relay finished in second place with a time of 1:36.83.

Denver had a handful of second and third-place finishes. Freshman Nathan West (Englewood, Colo.) finished second in both distance freestyle events, first in the 1650-yard freestyle (16:36.18) and later in the 500-yard freestyle (4:50.92).

Junior Brian Flaherty (Granite Bay, Calif.) finished second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.61) as did sophomore Derek Shaw (Centennial, Colo.) in the 200-yard individual medley (1:58.05).

In the sprint freestyle events, freshman Matt Diotte (Auburn, Wash.) placed second in the 50-yard freestyle (21.81) and finished third in the 100-yard freestyle (47.61).

Freshman diver Wolf Audet (Madison, Conn.) placed second on both boards. He earned 208.86 points on the 1-meter board and 209.17 points on the 3-meter board.

The Pioneers will be back in action Thursday, Jan. 27, when both men and women battle Colorado School of Mines in El Pomar Natatorium beginning at 4:30 p.m.
