DENVER - Four members of the Great Western Lacrosse League co-champion University of Denver men's lacrosse team earned All-GWLL honors for their play this season announced by league officials. Attackman Matt Brown (Burnaby, B.C.), midfielder Scott Davidson (Guilford, Conn.) and defender Christian Anderson (Madison, Conn.) were first-team selections, while senior midfielder Greer Hanlon (Libertyville, Ill.) earned second-team honors.
Brown led the Pioneers' attack for the fourth straight season, starting in all 14 games while tallying a career-high 42 points on 36 goals and six assists. He recorded a point in all but one game this season and added 10 multi-goal games. Brown earned player of the week honors on April 12 for his three-goal performance, including his 100th career goal, in the Pioneers' 9-6 upset of then No. 11 Notre Dame. He was a preseason All-America Honorable Mention selection and earned 2005 Pioneer Face-off Classic All-Tournament Team honors for his seven-goal performance on the weekend. Brown ended his career with 137 career points on 113 goals and 24 assists, which ranks him fourth on the Pioneers' all-time goals scored list.
For the third consecutive season, Davidson earned first-team honors for his play. He is ranked second on the team in points this season with 29, scoring 18 goals and adding 11 assists. He tallied a season-high five points (3g, 2a) in what would be his last game in the Crimson and Gold at league co-champion Fairfield. The face-off specialist won crucial face-offs which notably set up game-winning goals against Harvard and Air Force, and amassed 71 face-offs wins this season. Davidson also earned preseason All-America Second Team honors and 2005 Pioneer Face-off Classic All-Tournament Team honors for his play.
Anderson, the backbone of Denver's defensive unit, started in all 14 games and an impressive 56 consecutive games in his career as a Pioneer. Gathering 21 groundballs this season, he led a defense that forced opponents to commit over 19 turnovers per game, while holding them to 8.14 goals per game. Anderson earned 2005 Pioneer Face-off Classic All-Tournament Team honors as a long stick midfielder.
Hanlon earned second-team honors for the second consecutive season as he tallied 24 points on 16 goals and eight assists while playing in all 14 games. He is tied for third on the team with goals scored and sixth in assists. Hanlon recorded a season-high four points (2g, 2a) in the Pioneers' back-to-back wins against Sacred Heart and Harvard. He also tallied five other multi-point games this season.
