Colorado Springs, Colo. - The University of Denver men's soccer team notched its third straight win Saturday, beating Air Force 3-0 in Colorado Springs, Colo. The three goals were scored by three different Pioneers in the first half of the game and junior Matt Bredehoft (Fort Collins, Colo.) recorded his fourth shutout this season.

The first Pioneer goal was scored in the fifteenth minute by senior defender Mike Seager (Victoria, B.C.) who was assisted by senior midfielder James Merriman (Nanaimo, B.C.).

"Merriman had a phenomenal game tonight," Head Coach Chad Ashton said. "The way he set up Seager for the goal was just an example of that."

Denver scored again in the 26th minute when a long throw was knocked down and kicked in by senior midfielder Ben Mendozza (Aurora, Colo.) from 18 yards out. The third goal was knocked in by junior midfielder Jacob Chase (Golden, Colo.) on an intercepted weak back pass from sophomore midfielder Joey Mathot (Port Moody, B.C.) in the 34th minute of the game. At halftime, the Pioneers led 3-0.

All three goals went unanswered for the rest of the game and Bredehoft earned the win, his fifth of the season.

"We started fast with a lot of intensity and emotion" Ashton said. "It was a great effort by Bredehoft and the rest of the defense and we hope to keep playing at this level."

The Pioneers head to California next weekend to take on MPSF rivals San Jose State Thursday, Oct. 12 at 8 p.m. and Sacramento State Sunday Oct. 15 at 1 p.m.
