Little Rock, Ark. - Senior guard DaShawn Walker (Chicago, Ill.) scored a game-high 19 points, but Arkansas-Little Rock used a stifling full-court press to beat the Pioneers, 73-47.
Denver's (1-11, 0-2) second half struggles continued against the Trojans (6-6, 1-0), who opened the second half with 12 unanswered points and went on a 28-8 run over the first 13 minutes after the break. Denver did not score in the first seven minutes of the second half.
The Trojans outscored Denver 41-20 after the break, the 16th straight game the Pioneers have been outscored in the second half, dating back to last season on Feb. 18, 2006 against North Texas.
UALR led by as many as 11 points in the first half, but consecutive 3-pointers by Walker with three minutes left kept the Pioneers in the game, and the half ended with the Trojans up by five.
Senior forward Antonio Porch (Denver, Colo.), who had led the Pioneers in scoring over the past four games, committed his second foul five minutes into the game and sat out the rest of the half, finishing the game with five points and four rebounds in 15 minutes.
Trojans forward Rashad Jones-Jennings, who is second in the nation with 11.9 rebounds per game, led UALR with 14 rebounds and added 13 points. Guard Terrance Akins paced the Trojans with 14 points, including 4-for-6 from 3-point range.
The Pioneers were out-rebounded 34-to25 in the game and turned the ball over 19 times.
Denver was hopeful that junior point guard Steve Wetrich (Ottumwa, Iowa) would return to the lineup, but he was kept out of his second straight game after suffering a minor concussion at Northern Colorado on Dec. 10.
