Box Score

Dec. 7, 2006

Box Score

LARAMIE, Wyo. - Senior forward Antonio Porch (Denver, Colo.) scored a season-high 17 points, but the Pioneers were downed by Wyoming, 91-59 Wednesday night at Arena-Auditorium.

It was the second straight game that Porch set his season-high and led Denver in scoring.

DU (1-8) had a solid first half, shooting 48.1 percent and leading as late as 14 minutes into the game, when the Pioneers held a 24-22 advantage. Porch led both teams at the break with nine points.

The Cowboys (7-1) pulled away during the first six minutes of the second half, increasing their lead to 16 points by outscoring DU 20-12 in the opening seven minutes.

Overall, the Cowboys outscored the Pioneers 53-29 in the second half, leading by as many as 33 points and going on a 16-0 run over a five-minute stretch.

Junior guard Steve Wetrich (Ottumwa, Iowa) scored 15 points, his second game scoring in double digits this season. Wetrich had 16 points against Northern Colorado on Nov. 19

Three Wyoming players entered the game averaging double digits in scoring: Brandon Ewing (22.7 ppg), Brad Jones (18.3 ppg) and James Spencer (12.6 ppg). All three surpassed that plateau again tonight, scoring 20, 24 and 12, respectively.

The Pioneers were without senior guard DaShawn Walker (Chicago, Ill.), the team's leading scorer and rebounder, who did not make the trip. Walker broke the big toe in his right foot when he was undercut while going up for a blocked shot against South Dakota State on Sunday. The team is hopeful that Walker can return to action Sunday against Northern Colorado.

Replacing Walker, junior center Chris Timms (Birmingham, England) made his first start as a member of the Pioneers.

The Pioneers next play Northern Colorado on Sunday, Dec. 10 at 2 p.m. at Butler-Hancock Sports Pavilion in Greeley. The game can be heard live on KKFN AM 950 "The Fan" or on DenverPioneers.com.
