DENVER - Tanya Fuchs (Bay Shore, N.Y.) tallied five goals to lead the Denver Pioneers to a 15-9 win over Hofstra in women's lacrosse action this afternoon at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. Kristie Leggio (Bay Shore, N.Y.) added three goals and two assists and goaltender Becky Childs (Phoenix, Md.) stopped 11 shots as the Pioneers ended a two-game losing streak and improve to 3-2 overall. Hofstra falls to 0-3.
Karen Morton (Adelaide, Australia) and Stephanie Greenlees (Lake Forest, Ill.) added two goals and two assists each in the six-goal win. Megan Tyrie (Littleton, Colo.), Steph Coyne (Baltimore, Md.) and Victoria Baines (Parker, Colo.) added one goal each in DU's third win of the season.
DU jumped out to an 8-5 advantage after the first half as Fuchs and Greenlees scored two goals each. Hofstra scored the first goal of the game, but DU scored five of the next six goals and never looked back.
Fuchs added three goals in the second half, including the game-winner at 21:10 and Childs was dominant in net with seven saves. Fuchs has tallied all three game-winning goals for DU this season.
Kimberly Hillier led Hofstra with three goals and one assist. Maisee Osteen stopped five shots in the loss. Hofstra outshot the Pioneers, 29-28, but DU claimed the ground ball battle 27-18.
DU opens Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play against UC Davis on Sat., March 11 at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. Faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. MT.
